Houston real estate help in Cantonese, English or Mandarin.

Renting, buying, or still deciding.

Hello, I’m Alfie

Know what to confirm
before you arrive.

Your arrival date, work location and monthly budget all shape your home search. I’ll help you sort out what to confirm before the move and what can wait until you arrive, so you can focus on one decision at a time.

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Plan around your arrival date

Start with when you expect to arrive and when you’ll need a home. I’ll help you review any gap between those dates, plan for a visit and identify what to confirm before you travel.

An approximate timeline is enough to start.

RENT FIRST OR BUY?

Compare the tradeoffs of renting and buying

How long you expect to stay, where you’ll work and your monthly housing budget all matter. I’ll help you compare costs and flexibility. Rental and loan requirements need to be confirmed with the landlord, property manager or lender.

Understand what each option involves before deciding.

Already in Houston? Tell me what you’re considering next.

Before the home search

Three things to compare
before choosing a home.

Photos only tell part of the story. Your commute, move-in date and total housing costs deserve a closer look.

01 / RENT OR BUY

Should I rent first or buy when I move to Houston?

If your work location is uncertain or you want time to learn the city, renting may give you useful flexibility. If you expect to stay longer and have a clearer budget and timeline, it may be worth exploring what buying would involve.

  • How long you expect to stay and whether another move is likely.
  • Total housing costs, including expenses beyond rent or the mortgage payment.
  • The details you need to check in person before making a decision.

I’ll help you compare the tradeoffs. A lender will need to confirm financing options and eligibility for your situation.

02 / WHERE TO LOOK

How do I narrow down where to live in Houston?

Map your workplace and regular stops, then compare individual addresses. That gives you a more useful picture of daily travel than a neighborhood name alone.

  • Check the route to work and other regular stops at the times you expect to travel.
  • Compare the home’s layout, total housing costs and the features you’ll actually use.
  • If schools matter to your move, confirm the address assignment with the school district.

Send me a few addresses or listings. We can use them to separate the features you need from the ones you’re willing to trade off.

03 / BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

What can I prepare before relocating from overseas?

Put your arrival, visit and move-in dates on one timeline. I’ll help you work through the housing preparations and identify what needs an answer before you travel.

  • Write down your likely arrival date, visit dates and any gap before you need a home.
  • Ask the property manager or lender which documents they accept for your situation before preparing an application.
  • Choose a language and a time to talk that works across time zones.

Keep financial and identity documents out of this inquiry form. A short description of your plans is enough to begin.

Send me your question
  1. 1

Start with your timing and needs

Tell me when you need a home, where you’ll travel regularly and which housing features matter most. Approximate dates are fine.

  2. 2

    Compare costs, location and flexibility

I’ll help you look at what renting or buying would involve, then compare addresses and housing costs against your plans.

  3. 3

    Choose one useful next step

That might mean checking requirements with a lender, preparing for a visit or narrowing your search. I’ll explain my recommendation, and you decide when to move forward.

My first reply will be by email.I’ll respond to your question there. If a call would help, we can arrange a time in your time zone. Submitting the form does not book a call.

Your name and email are enough to start. The other details are optional.

Are you thinking of renting or buying?

Common questions

Planning your move
and getting in touch.

Can we talk before I arrive in Houston?

Yes. Share your current location and expected arrival date, and we can start reviewing your housing plans. If you’re planning a visit, I can help you identify the locations and properties to see in person.

Do I need a budget or a move date first?

No. Share what you know so far. I can help you identify what to confirm before a home search, such as your monthly housing budget, work location and move-in timing.

Can we discuss renting or buying in Cantonese?

Yes. I can discuss renting, buying and move preparations in Cantonese, English or Mandarin, and explain unfamiliar real estate terms. This page is available in Cantonese and English. Choose your preferred conversation language in the form.

What if I don’t have an SSN or U.S. credit history yet?

Tell me early so we can ask the landlord, property management company or lender which documents they accept for your situation. Requirements vary, and an alternative document does not guarantee approval. We should get their answers before you spend time or money on an application. Please don’t send identity or financial documents through this form.

I’m already in Houston. Can you still help?

Yes. You may be nearing the end of a lease, looking for a different rental or preparing to buy. Tell me your timing and what you need from your next home.

Does this form book a call?

No. It’s designed to send me your question and email address. I’ll reply by email first, and we can arrange a conversation if that would help.

About Alfie

I’ve started over
in a new city, too.

In Hong Kong, I worked in banking, handling credit applications, document verification and due diligence. That work taught me to check the facts and ask about the details before reaching a conclusion.

When I moved to Houston, I worked as a mover by day and took real estate courses at night before earning my Texas real estate license. Starting over taught me how much a move involves beyond choosing a home: timing, costs and everyday arrangements.

I bring that same care to your home search. I’ll listen to your situation, help you compare options and check the details. You decide the next step.
